D-ID Alternatives in 2026: HeyGen, Synthesia, Colossyan, Tavus and More

The best D-ID alternatives depend on which part of D-ID you use. For talking-photo and avatar videos, HeyGen and Synthesia are the closest matches; for training courses with quizzes and SCORM, Colossyan; for real-time conversational avatars and APIs, Tavus or HeyGen's LiveAvatar API. We checked every price below on the vendors' own pricing pages on October 26, 2026, and turned each entry plan into a rough cost per minute of video.
Key points (checked October 26, 2026):
- D-ID Pro costs $29 a month on monthly billing for 15 minutes of video, about $1.93 per minute, with a commercial license and an "AI watermark". Lite is $5.90 for 10 minutes but keeps the D-ID watermark and a personal license.
- HeyGen Creator is also $29 a month, but it counts credits: a photo avatar on Avatar IV uses 16 credits per minute, so 600 credits cover about 37 minutes.
- Synthesia Starter is $19 a month (first month $9) or $14 a month billed yearly, and its free Basic plan includes 10 minutes of watermarked video.
- Colossyan has a free Starter plan and a Professional plan at $59 a month on annual billing with 5 SCORM exports a month.
- Tavus prices real-time conversations by the minute: 20 free minutes, then $22 a month for 60 minutes.
What are the best D-ID alternatives?
The best D-ID alternatives in 2026 are HeyGen, Synthesia, Colossyan and Tavus, plus Deepege for teams that publish short marketing videos across many platforms. Each one replaces a different D-ID product: Creative Reality Studio (avatar videos from text, audio or a still image), Video Translate, or Visual Agents (real-time avatars connected to a language model).
| Tool | Best for | Free option | Entry paid plan (Oct 26, 2026) | Rough cost per minute |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| D-ID (baseline) | Talking photos, quick avatar clips, real-time agents | 14-day trial, 3 minutes, full-screen watermark | Lite $5.90/mo (10 min), Pro $29/mo (15 min), monthly billing | Pro about $1.93 |
| HeyGen | Avatar videos from a photo or video, video translation | 3 videos a month, up to 1 minute, watermarked | Creator $29/mo, 600 credits | About $0.34 (Avatar III photo) to $0.78 (Avatar IV photo) |
| Synthesia | Business and training videos with stock or personal avatars | Basic: 10 minutes of video, watermarked | Starter $19/mo monthly or $14/mo yearly | About $0.86 if you use all ~22 minutes |
| Colossyan | Training courses, interactive video, SCORM | Starter: 20 minutes a month | Professional $59/mo billed annually | About $1.97 (30 NEO minutes) |
| Tavus | Real-time conversational avatars via API | 20 minutes of conversational video | Starter $22/mo, 60 minutes | About $0.37 per live conversation minute |
| Deepege (our product) | Short marketing videos for Douyin, WeChat Channels, TikTok and more | Free tools; free credits after sign-up | Quoted after a fit assessment | Not published |
The cost per minute is our arithmetic from each pricing page, not a vendor figure. HeyGen and Synthesia charge credits at different rates for different avatar models, so your real cost depends on which model and features you pick. Check the checkout page before you buy, because several vendors were running first-month or annual promotions on the day we looked.

What does D-ID cost in 2026, and why do people look for alternatives?
D-ID's self-serve plans range from a free 14-day trial to $196 a month, and every plan counts minutes shared across videos, agents, Video Translate and the API. On monthly billing, Lite is $5.90 for 10 minutes, Pro is $29 for 15 minutes and Advanced is $196 for 100 minutes. Billed annually, the same plans work out to $4.70, $16 and $108 a month.
| D-ID plan | Monthly billing | Billed annually | Minutes per month | Watermark | License |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trial | $0 for 14 days | n/a | 3 in total | Full-screen | Personal |
| Lite | $5.90 | $4.70 ($56/yr) | 10 | D-ID watermark | Personal |
| Pro | $29 | $16 ($191/yr) | 15 | "AI watermark" | Commercial |
| Advanced | $196 | $108 ($1,293/yr) | 100 | Custom logo | Commercial |
Three details on the pricing page explain most searches for an alternative:
- Minutes are shared. The same 15 Pro minutes cover videos, agent conversations, translation and API calls, so a team that uses more than one product runs out quickly.
- The cheapest commercial plan is Pro. Trial and Lite carry a personal use license, so a business needs Pro or higher for marketing videos.
- Watermarks change by plan. Trial has a full-screen watermark, Lite keeps the D-ID watermark and Pro lists an "AI watermark"; only Advanced and Enterprise list a custom logo.
D-ID still makes sense if you need talking photos plus a real-time agent from one vendor, or if its API fits your stack. Our HeyGen vs D-ID comparison goes deeper on those two products.
HeyGen: the closest match for talking photos and avatar videos
HeyGen is the closest D-ID alternative for avatar videos made from a photo or a short video, and it adds video translation with lip-sync. Its free plan allows 3 watermarked videos a month, each up to one minute. Creator costs $29 a month with 600 credits, 1080p export, no HeyGen branding, one custom video avatar and 175+ languages and dialects.
HeyGen's help center lists how fast credits go. A photo avatar uses 7 credits a minute on Avatar III, 16 on Avatar IV and 48 on Avatar V. On Creator that is roughly 85, 37 or 12 minutes a month. Video translation with lip-sync costs 6 credits a minute in Speed mode and 10 in Precision mode.
For developers, HeyGen sells a separate real-time product, the LiveAvatar API, which streams 1080p avatars and can use your own language model and voice. Plan credits cannot be spent through the API; API credits are bought separately. If HeyGen is on your shortlist, see our HeyGen alternatives list as well.
Synthesia: business and training videos with a watermarked free plan
Synthesia is a D-ID alternative for companies that make many presenter-led business and training videos. Its free Basic plan gives 500 credits a month and every plan includes the first 10 minutes of video, with a Synthesia watermark on the free tier. Starter is $19 a month on monthly billing (the first month was $9 when we checked) or $14 a month billed yearly ($168).
Starter adds about 12 minutes of video a month on top of the free allowance, downloads, logo removal and 125+ avatars. Pro costs $89 a month monthly or $59 billed yearly and adds about 60 minutes, 5 personal avatars and interactive videos. SCORM export and 1-click translation into 140+ languages sit in Enterprise. Synthesia's page calls its minute figures estimates, because avatars, B-roll and dubbing use credits at different rates.
The monthly Starter price on Synthesia's pricing page changed during the week before we checked, so treat any Synthesia figure older than a few days with caution. Our Synthesia alternatives guide covers the other direction.
Colossyan: training courses with quizzes and SCORM
Colossyan is the D-ID alternative for learning and development teams that need more than a single video. It builds courses from documents and slide decks, adds branching scenarios, quizzes and clickable buttons, and exports SCORM packages to a learning management system (LMS).
The free Starter plan includes 20 minutes a month with Colossyan's NEO model, 15 custom avatars, 10 interactive videos and 15 automatic translations a month, with a 20-minute limit per video. Professional is $59 a month on an annual plan and adds 30 NEO minutes, 10 NEO2 minutes, watermark removal and 5 SCORM exports a month; each extra editor is $30 a month. Unlimited SCORM, SSO and EU or US data residency are Enterprise features.
If you are planning the course itself, our guide to eLearning video production covers length, captions and structure.
Tavus: real-time conversational avatars for developers
Tavus is a D-ID alternative for the Visual Agents side of D-ID: AI humans that talk with users in real time. Its Conversational Video Interface is available as an API and a no-code builder, supports 42+ languages and can join Google Meet or Zoom calls.
Tavus charges by conversation minute. The free plan includes 20 minutes; Starter is $22 a month for 60 minutes, 1 custom face and 1 concurrent session; Builder is $59 for 175 minutes and up to 3 concurrent sessions, with extra minutes at $0.35. Each conversation is rounded to 6 seconds and carries a 30-second minimum. Paid plans also include a small allowance of pre-rendered video, 5 minutes a month on Starter.
Tavus is the wrong fit if you mainly want finished marketing videos, because its pricing and tooling are built around live sessions.
Deepege: our product, for multi-platform marketing videos
Deepege is our own product, so weigh this section accordingly. It is not a like-for-like D-ID replacement: it has no talking-photo tool, real-time agent or public API that we can point to. It fits teams that need a steady stream of short marketing videos published to several platforms.
On deepege.com, the agent drafts a director's plan shot by shot, uses your own footage first and fills gaps with public assets, AI shots or digital avatars, then waits for your approval. Voice, subtitles, text overlays and cover are finished together, overseas versions convert the script, voiceover and subtitles into the target language, and videos publish to Douyin, Kuaishou, WeChat Channels, Xiaohongshu and TikTok accounts. Pricing is quoted after a fit assessment, and the pricing page says a conventional production team is a better fit for a one-off brand film.
To try the workflow, draft a script with the free AI video script generator or a narration track with the AI voiceover generator.
How do you choose a D-ID alternative?
Choose a D-ID alternative by the output you need, then compare price per minute for that output only. Avatar videos, training courses and live conversations are priced in different units, so a cheaper plan on one axis can cost more on another.

- Name the job. Talking photo or avatar clip, training course, translated video or live agent.
- Estimate monthly minutes. Count finished minutes, not drafts. D-ID rounds each video up to the nearest 15 seconds, and Tavus charges at least 30 seconds per conversation.
- Check the license and watermark on the plan you can afford. On D-ID, commercial use starts at Pro.
- Test with your own face and voice. Every tool here has a free tier or trial, so make the same 30-second clip in two of them before you pay.
- Plan the disclosure. YouTube requires creators to disclose realistic AI-generated or altered content, including a real person appearing to say something they did not say, through the "AI use" setting in YouTube Studio. Get written consent from anyone whose face or voice you clone.
How we compared these tools
We opened each vendor's pricing page in a desktop browser on October 26, 2026 (US locale, USD) and recorded the prices shown after the page loaded, switching between monthly and yearly billing where a toggle existed. Where a page only showed annual billing (Colossyan Professional), the table says so. Cost per minute divides the entry plan price by the minutes it includes; for credit-based plans we used the vendor's published credit rates. Pages used: D-ID pricing, HeyGen pricing, HeyGen credit rates, Synthesia pricing, Colossyan pricing and Tavus pricing.
We did not test video quality, lip-sync accuracy or latency, and we did not use vendor claims about realism or customer numbers. Hedra was left out because its pricing page now lists per-second API rates rather than a comparable avatar video plan. Elai.io and Arcads appear in our other comparison pages and were not rechecked today.
Conclusion
If you use D-ID for talking photos and short avatar clips, start with HeyGen or Synthesia; both have free tiers and lower costs per minute at their entry plans. For courses, compare Colossyan's SCORM limits; for live agents, compare Tavus with HeyGen's LiveAvatar API. Recheck prices on the checkout page, because several of these vendors were running promotions in October 2026.
